Climafrost Refrigeration LTD is approved by NEMA to carry installation, inspection, repair and services pertaining to refrigeration. Therefore we follow the rules and regulation of Environmental, Safety & Health as laid down in the
constitution.
Title: Construction Safety Management
PURPOSE: To ensure that a safe and healthful environment is maintained during services, repairs and installation activities undertaken by Climafrost Refrigeration LTD.
SCOPE: All activities undertaken by the company unless stated otherwise. These procedures apply to all company employees, outside contractors, and company-managed skilled labor forces.
POLICY: Climafrost Refrigeration LTD recognizes the importance of HSE procedures as pertains to construction and as such has taken into consideration the above in the following aspects of safety:-
A. Safety Attire and normal Safety Procedure.
- All personnel shall at all times be dressed in appropriate safety attire i.e. Overalls, safety shoes, gloves, helmets, dust masks,
gas masks, full body harness, etc. as per the requirements of the site as agreed with the clerk of works.
- Any visitors to site shall be applicable to Rule No. 1 above unless otherwise stated by the site supervisor.
- Prior to commencement of works, all laborers; casual and permanent shall be inducted on the safety processes and procedures pertaining to the particular site.
- Safety drills shall be conducted to pre-empt any confusions in case of emergencies should they arise.
- Appropriate signage shall be placed at all times in all appropriate places to warn and ward off any unsuspecting persons of the construction site and construction progress.
- Barricades shall be placed around the construction site for safety of the general public and as normal procedure advocated
in Safety for Construction; Herbert et al (1998).
- Measures shall be taken at all times to be in compliance with safety standards and regulations as specified by either the
client, local authority or any organizations specific to the particular contract.
- Appropriate yards shall be designated to prevent accumulation of debris on site. The debris on the yard shall be carted away and disposed off in appropriate dumping sites to prevent inappropriate accumulation.
- Site inspections shall be conducted on a daily basis by the foreman to check that all safety processes are strictly adhered to.
- Proper storage practices shall be adhered to.
- All sites and employees shall be insured for indemnity against hazards and risks associated with the particular construction.
B: Construction Equipment Safety.
- All mechanical equipment and machines shall be inspected by qualified and competent personnel for verification and
certification of use on all sites.
- Any safety procedure advocated for and instructed by the manufacturers as pertains to any equipment shall be followed at
all times for all machines.
- Machines and equipment shall be operated by experienced and qualified technical operators as certified by the Project
Engineer.
- All machines needing supports and anchorage shall be provided for all the necessary anchorage and support. They shall then be inspected and certified to be safe before their usage is approved.
- Moving parts of machines shall be covered or hooded where
appropriate to prevent exposure to injuries.
- All electrical equipment shall be suitably corded and covered to
prevent hazardous spark emissions.
C: Fire Safety.
- Smoking is prohibited on all construction sites.
- Induction on fire prevention, control and extinguishing shall be done before commencement of works.
- Flammable solids and liquids shall be kept in open sheds at all times unless otherwise specified.
- Fire extinguishing equipment shall be provided on all relevant sites.
- There shall always be a designated fire escape access route at all times in any and all enclosed construction sites. All such exits must remain free, accessible and must provide unobstructed egress at all times without the use of tools or special knowledge.
- Combustible debris shall be carted away on a daily basis.
D: First Aid.
- A fully equipped first aid kit(s) shall be provided for use on any and all sites.
- A shed or designated area for first aid shall be set on all sites. Access to such sheds shall be available at all times.
- There shall be at least one First Aid Marshall on any and all teams. Such a person shall be deemed certified for the position
and title through extra induction and training on safety procedures.
- No injured or seemingly injured person(s) shall be allowed back on site unless certified by the First Aid Marshall or a medically competent person.
- A telephone shall be provided on all sites for emergency calls in case of injuries requiring special medical attention.
